New Spotify For Artists Feature: Artist to Upload Music Directly in Beta

Written by on Wed Sep, 2018

What new Spotify for Artist feature are you talking about?

On September 20th, 2018, streaming giant Spotify announced that they will be allowing artists to upload music directly via Spotify for Artists. Currently in beta, Spotify aims to make the process much simpler for artists to get their music out to the world.

What Does this really add?

This feature adds the ability for independent artists to upload their music directly to Spotify without having to go through a third party distribution service. Spotify says “Uploading is free to all artists, and Spotify doesn’t charge you any fees or commissions no matter how frequently you release music.” This feature also gives artists the ability to edit the metadata such as album art, track name, and artist name right from Spotify for Artists.

How do I sign up?

Unfortunately, since this feature is in beta right now, it’s restricted only to a select few. “Right now, upload in Spotify for Artists is only available by invitation to a few hundred US-based independent artists, but we’re excited to bring upload to even more artists, labels, and teams in the future,”says Spotify in their blog post, but they will be asking more to join over the next few months. Look at what they have to say here. “Over the next few months, we’ll ask more of you to participate — make sure to join our mailing list so you’ll be the first to know about any new announcements.”

Where do I find out more information?

If you wouldd like more information, head over to Spotify and read the official blog post in it’s entirety. The post is available here: Spotify Blog Post
