Email Marketing: Why Every Artist Needs to Implement It

You just released a new project and want to get your music to  industry personnel and potential fans? Reaching out to hundreds if not thousands of people at once can be a daunting task. Well that is where email marketing and developing email lists can help you grow your brand as an artist. This method of marketing can help you to stay in contact your fan base. It can also help you to make major announcements to those that are really interested. In this article, I aim to introduce to you what email marketing is, some tactics to develop your email list, as well as some email marketing services.

What is Email Marketing?

Email marketing is essentially the act of advertising brands, goods or services through the use of email. Instead of advertising on radio or TV, users elect to receive email advertisements from you. This can be very helpful for you as an artist, because these people want to see what you have to say or know what you are doing. Utilizing email marketing services, you can now develop emails and forward it to a large group of people with just one push of a button. Gone are the days of roaming a busy entertainment area handing out flyers and CD. You can now easily forward your flyer for your next performance or announce your newest release in seconds to your entire fan base.

How Do I Develop My List

Developing your own email list isn’t very difficult task, actually, it’s very easy. The easiest way is to ask for emails when getting contact information during networking events or shows. It is very important that you inform them that you will be adding them to your email list. Alternatively, this can also be done digitally. If you’ve ever been to a website and within the first few seconds, you see a pop up asking for your email, that site is collecting emails. This is a very effective strategy to use. Many companies have found this to be a very important strategy in converting potential customers into buying customers. You as an artist and brand can use this model to convert potential fans into die-hard fan.

Ok, So How Do I Implement It?

Well with the advent of technology, there are many services that allow you to implement your email marketing strategy. Some of the most popular brands on the market right, you may have heard of, such as MailChimp and Constant Contact. Both services allow you to create beautiful email templates as well automate the sending of your emails. Along with that, both services offers excellent reporting allowing you to see how well your email marketing strategy is doing. This means, you can see how many people opened your email, how many remained unopened, and much more. Best of all, MailChimp offers a free option, where you can have up to 2000 subscribers and 1000 emails a month before getting into their paid plans starting at $50. This is a great alternative to Constant Contact who’s plans start at $65 and doesn’t have a free plan. Both services offer add-ons for websites and certain social media platforms to collect emails as well. We here at MizFitz Radio utilize Mailchimp and we’ve found that it is perfect for our needs.
